The Cart Transform API is Shopify's modern standard for bundle management. It intercepts cart and checkout operations to merge or expand line items on the fly. When a customer adds a Combo Bundle or Custom Box to their cart, Cart Transform expands the parent bundle into its individual component SKUs with accurate component pricing, preserving full inventory integrity.

How Cart Transform Operates

  1. 1. Storefront Selection: The shopper customizes a bundle (e.g. 3-pack coffee sampler) on the PDP or Box Builder page.
  2. 2. Cart Ingestion: The app passes bundle metadata and component variant IDs via Shopify's /cart/add.js endpoint.
  3. 3. Wasm Function Execution: Shopify Cart Transform Function receives the cart lines and expands them into authentic individual product variants.
  4. 4. Clean Presentation: On the customer-facing cart and checkout, the bundle displays as a cohesive offer with component breakdown.
  5. 5. Warehouse Order Receipt: The resulting Shopify Order contains individual SKUs ready for barcode scanning and picking.
