Learn how Combo Bundles discounts interact with checkout coupons, promotions, and free shipping.

Under Shopify's modern discount combination framework, merchants have granular control over whether bundle discounts can stack with additional coupon codes, automatic store discounts, or free shipping offers entered at checkout.

Combination Types & Settings

  • Product Discounts: Allow bundle discounts to combine with other product-level discounts. (Recommendation: Keep unchecked unless running specific multi-tier campaigns).
  • Order Discounts: Allow shoppers to apply cart-wide coupon codes (e.g. 'WELCOME10' for newsletter subscribers) on top of bundle savings.
  • Shipping Discounts: Allow bundle orders to qualify for free shipping rules or shipping discount vouchers (e.g. 'Free shipping on orders over $75').

Protecting Profit Margins

To prevent unintended double-discounting during major sale events (e.g. Black Friday Cyber Monday):

  1. Open Shopify Admin > Discounts.
  2. Select your active Combo Bundles automatic discount.
  3. Under Combinations, uncheck 'Order discounts' if you do not want shoppers to stack sitewide promo codes with bundle price cuts.
  4. Keep 'Shipping discounts' enabled so customers still enjoy free shipping thresholds.
